Letter from the Directors

Dear Medical Honors Program Alumni,
As the calendar turns to Fall, it’s time to get another edition of the MHP Newsletter out to all of you.  It’s important to note that it’s a student driven endeavor as they write and edit each story.  In this issue, they wrote about last month’s MHP Student/Alumni Reception that was held in conjunction with the UF COM Alumni weekend.  Speaking of Alumni weekend, next year’s will be held on October 2-3, 2020 and will coincide with the South Carolina football game.  We will host another MHP reception for students and Alums sometime during that weekend, so please save the dates on your calendar, as we would love to see you!

Other items in this issue include a write-up about our newly launched Lunch & Learn series, and an interview with long time UF COM faculty member, Dr. Dan Purich.  The Lunch & Learns are a monthly opportunity for you to speak with our students.  This Fall, our students have had an opportunity to chat with Drs. Kathy Walsh and Shiven Patel.  We would love to have you speak with our students and via Zoom, you can do it rather easily from your office or home.    The Lunch & Learns occur on the second Thursday of each month, from 12:00 noon – 12:50 pm (EST).  Please reach out to me or Ms. Thomas if you are interested.  Regarding the interview with Dr. Purich, he speaks with our students about his life in science and his 35 years here at UF.

As we mentioned previously, once our MHP students transition to medical school, they must do a preceptorship, in each of their first three semesters.  If you’d like to be a preceptor for one of our students, please reach out to me or Ms. Thomas.  Our complete contact information is located at the end of this newsletter.

In closing, we thank you for your interest in the program and we look forward to hearing from you!

Regards,
Peter Sayeski and Danielle Thomas
