Nirja Shah, a UF Medical Honors Program Student, was the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Gandhi Community Service Award, presented by the Indian American Chamber of Commerce. This annual award is bestowed upon an individual who practices Gandhian methods and has made a significant contribution towards community services within the Central Florida region. She was honored for her volunteering initiatives such as coordinating fundraisers for the Hubbard House, being a clinical Spanish interpreter with Grace Medical Home, and serving at a leadership position in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.
